Being in my final year of university, it began to dawn on me that I had no first-hand experience of what it’s really like to work in a creative PR agency, even though this has always been my ambition when I started my studies.

I first discovered No Brainer on Instagram and had been a fan of the content they posted for a while, so I messaged them and was over the moon when the team offered me a two-week placement!

On my first day, I arrived at the office and was welcomed by the team. Everyone was super friendly and made me feel very relaxed from the start. My first day of placement consisted of a morning briefing with account executive, Hannah, who had planned out a week full of exciting events for me to experience.

Afterwards, we had a full team meeting where I got to learn about the No Brainer clients, what each team member’s weekly schedule consisted of and how I could lend a helping hand. Later that day, I went along to a social media workshop ran by Lee and Michelle for one of their clients. Attending the workshop was really insightful as I learnt that there is so much more that goes on behind the scenes of an agency. My first day at No Brainer went very well and I couldn’t wait to see what the rest of my time here had in store!

During the first week my key focus was around creative work and social media content. On Wednesday I worked with Anna and Michelle on some design work for a client campaign they were working on for International Women’s Day. I really enjoyed this experience as I learned a lot about the many factors that need to be taken into consideration when developing a clients’ social media page.

Later that day we also had a ‘Lunch and Learn’ session where Michelle taught the team some exciting new skills (but forgot to provide the lunch)! It was great to spend this time with the whole team and get to know them all more, as I found it’s rare for everyone to be in the office at the same time – the teams are out and about a lot meeting their clients.

The end of the week consisted of working with Hannah to film some social content for a client. Gary joined us to interview the key people and guided me through the process of getting the right content to make an engaging video.

Friday afternoons at No Brainer are dedicated to Prosecco, Peroni and pool to celebrate the week’s successes and for me, the end to an amazing first week with the team!

The start of my second week at No Brainer was just as exciting as the first, kicking off with assisting Anna on a photoshoot for a new product launch! It was a valuable learning experience taking part in this shoot as photography is one of my hobbies, so it was great to transfer my skills to an industry photoshoot.

During the week I worked more with Hannah and experienced first-hand how No Brainer researches the best way to gain exposure for their clients and how diverse the content can be. My favourite part of this was contributing in contacting influencers for clients and learning how their impact on social media can improve a brand’s success.

On the morning of my last day with the No Brainer team, Lee and Gary took everyone out for a surprise breakfast to thank everyone for their hard work over the past few weeks. It was great to spend some time with the team as a whole out of the office for the last time before the end of my placement!

The rest of my final day consisted of editing social video content for a client video and finishing up some projects I was working on throughout the week.

Over my time spent at No Brainer I have learnt a lot about working in an agency and I owe it all to the amazing team of people who work here. The experience had given me a taste of what the industry is like and has definitely helped me clarify the career I’d like to progress in to when I finish university!

I’ve loved how varied the experience was day-to-day at No Brainer and I can’t thank the team enough for being the friendliest group to work with and giving me a wide range of experience of agency life. I’ve definitely made some good friends along the way and hope to see everyone again in the future!
