My first two months as a No Brainer Account Manager

By Jonny Touhey

It’s already been more than eight weeks since I moved to No Brainer after almost five years working in-house at a construction business where I was a PR Manager.

New horizons…

Over the last few years, like with most people, a number of job opportunities arose in my direction but none that I took seriously enough to interview for, let alone leave my then employer.

However, when I was given the opportunity to interview at No Brainer, I did my research, got a great feel for the business and decided to go for it. As soon as I met Gary and Lee for the interview, I felt comfortable and enjoyed listening to their passion for No Brainer.

I knew pretty quickly it would be the right decision to join if they were to offer me the job. Their knowledge, experience and down to earth mentality felt like a great fit for me and No Brainer became something I wanted to be a part of. Luckily, I got the job!

Joining the No Brainer team…

Starting afresh in the new year, I arrived at the offices here in Stockton Heath and was quickly welcomed in, with everyone so helpful and friendly from the get-go. The first few weeks were more about finding my feet, becoming familiar with the way No Brainer works and getting to know the clients.

There is a great open culture here at No Brainer, with everyone always on hand to help out, whether it’s with a client brief or my workload, I’ve felt very supported all the way through my first month and continue to do so. It is certainly a work hard, play hard type of place (with Prosecco Fridays and Go-Karting next month!) which has definitely been fun.

Changes and challenges…

The main challenge I’ve found so far has been the difference between working in-house compared to agency life. I knew this was likely going to be the biggest challenge before I made the move – going from being an expert in one particular field to now working across many different sectors.

Whilst it’s been a learning curve and still is, this was one of the main reasons I decided to move agency side, to broaden my horizons and understand the way social, content and PR can influence different industries, building up invaluable experience. It’s also great to see the work we produce make such a difference for our clients.

The biggest difference I’ve found with No Brainer compared to the previous agencies I’ve worked for in the past, is how proactive we are as a business. We do not rest on our laurels and are always looking for that next big story for clients!

Looking towards the future…

It’s been a very exciting and fast-paced first month at No Brainer, trying to soak up as much information as I can. I’ve learnt many new skills, particularly around how to best manage my time and balance the various accounts I now look after. Bring on the rest of 2019!
